Jets Injury Update: Dee Milliner expected to play Week 5

By on 10/02/2014 01:37:00 PM

The New York Jets are optimistic they are getting back one of their top cornerbacks this week against the San Diego Chargers, as posted by Mike Wilkening on Pro Football Talk.

Dee Milliner has not been on the field much this year, and has missed three of the Jets' four games played so far this season. The cornerback has been out with an injury, but Jets coach Rex Ryan is expecting Milliner to play this week.

"Milliner, we will just see how he is. I know there will be pre-practice evaluation on him on Wednesday. But I am confident he will be ready to play this week," said Ryan, according to an interview transcript from the club.

Milliner was a first-round draft pick in 2013 and had a good rookie season. The cornerback had 56 tackles, defended 17 passes, and had three interceptions. Going into the 2014 season, the Jets are expecting big things from Milliner. The team wants him to blossom into a shut-down corner that the defense can depend on.

The Jets take on Phillip Rivers and a potent Chargers passing attack. The Jets defense will certainly get a huge lift if Milliner is able to play this Sunday. The Jets are starting to spiral out of control, which has landed them in a three-game losing streak. The team could use any positive vibes going into Sunday's match-up.
