Jets Injury Update: Evander Kane leaves game after suffering lower-body injury

By on 10/10/2014 08:30:00 AM

Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane left Thursday night's season-opener against the Arizona Coyotes and did not return, as reported by Jeff Simmons for Sportsnet. Very early in the game, Kane collided with teammate Mark Scheifele and left to the dressing room. He was helped off the ice.

After the game, head coach Paul Maurice said that it was a lower-body injury and that more information will be made available once Kane meets with the team doctors. Maurice did not want to speculate at that point.

At 23 years old, this is Kane's sixth season in the NHL, all with the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise. He appeared in only 63 games last season, missing many with a hand injury. He was productive when he played though, notching 19 goals and adding 22 assists, while averaging over 20 minutes per game.

Until we know more about Kane's injury, it's difficult to say if he will miss any time. The Jets' next game is on Saturday night in San Jose against the Sharks. Kane remains an important part of the team's offense. It would be a major concern should he be forced to sit out some games.
