Canucks Injury Update: Kevin Bieksa is Questionable for Canucks’ Season Opener

By on 10/08/2014 02:06:00 PM

After suffering an apparent upper body injury last Thursday, Elliott Pap from the Vancouver Sun reports that the status for defenseman Kevin Bieksa of the Vancouver Canucks is uncertain for tonight's opener against the Calgary Flames.

Bieksa was able to practice fully on Tuesday after resting since last Thursday. In a brief interview, Kevin Bieksa declared his goal to play but did admit that he did not want to have any setbacks as the Canucks only have two games the first nine days of the season. Ultimately, the decision will be made by the Vancouver training staff and first year coach Willie Desjardins.

Kevin Bieksa is an important veteran influence for the Canucks’ defense as they attempt to return to the playoffs after missing the 2013-2014 postseason. Bieksa is also an alternate captain for the team and was in the top six of games played for Vancouver last season. He will be a true game time decision tonight against the Flames.
