Kings Injury Update: Anze Kopitar Out for Tuesday’s Game With an Upper Body Injury

By on 10/28/2014 01:11:00 PM

The Los Angeles Kings head into tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers without the services of their two-way center Anze Kopitar. Kopitar did travel with the team but barring a miracle, he will not be on the ice tonight.

Anze Kopitar was injured over the weekend during the Kings victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2. The Kings are at the beginning of a five game road trip back east. The fact that Kopitar will miss tonight’s game has some unique complications that the Kings must manage. Thomas Drance from The Score has reported that due to Kopitar’s injury and Slava Voynov’s indefinite suspension, the Kings may only be allowed to play with just 17 skaters against Philadelphia due to insufficient salary cap space to call up a replacement from the minor leagues. Normally, NHL teams dress 18 players plus two goalies with 12 of the players being forwards. The Kings potentially will dress 17 players with only 11 forwards. The team will wait to hear from the league office in terms of a temporary cap exemption.

Anze Kopitar currently has two goals and one assist through eight games.
