Lakers Injury Updates: Ryan Kelly, Wayne Ellington will both miss season opener

The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to put a dreadful 2013-2014 season behind them in which they won only 27 games. Injuries were a major factor in their season last season and it appears they will open the season tonight against the Houston Rockets. With Steve Nash already lost for the season and Xavier Henry unlikely to play, Ryan Kelly and Wayne Ellington will also miss the opener due to injury.

Mike Bresnahan, who covers the Lakers for the Los Angeles Times, tweeted the following on Ellington and Kelly.
Kelly, in his second season out of Duke, played in only three preseason games this year because of the injury. Last season he averaged eight points and 3.7 rebounds in 59 games.

Ellington, in his sixth NBA season, played in only two preseason games. Last season, he averaged 3.2 points in 8.7 minutes per game. Ellington has a career scoring average of 6.4 points in 312 games.

With Ellington and Kelly out, the Lakers are thin at shooting guard behind Kobe Bryant and at power forward behind Carlos Boozer.
