Lightning Injury Update: Jonathan Drouin will not be in the lineup tonight

The NHL debut for the third-overall pick in the 2013 draft will have to wait a little longer. According to The Score, Jonathan Drouin and his fractured thumb will be held out of tonight's season opener against the Florida Panthers in Tampa.

Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper decided that holding the rookie out of tonight's home and season opener was better than potentially aggravating the right thumb injury that has plagued the impressive forward. Drouin is currently listed on the active roster but will wait to make his much anticipated NHL debut when the thumb is fully healed.

Drouin, a Quebec native, had an impressive season last year for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He finished third in overall scoring, totaling 108 points including 29 goals. Drouin also turned in 41 points in 16 playoff games last season before Halifax was dispatched by the Val-d'Or Foreurs in the QMJHL semifinals.
