Lightning Injury Update: Victor Hedman Out 4-6 Weeks With a Broken Hand

By on 10/20/2014 12:47:00 PM

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman will be out of the lineup for approximately four to six weeks after suffering a broken hand against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Bob McKenzie from TSN reported that the injury occurred when Hedman successfully blocked a shot by Vancouver.

This is an unfortunate injury for Victor Hedman as he is tied for the team lead in Total Points (7) and was on pace to follow up his strong 2013-2014 season (55 total points). The Lightning will have to replace Hedman’s role of running the point on the first powerplay unit as well as his role of matching up with each opponents top lines. Hedman, 23, is viewed as a rising star in Tampa and the team will have to dig deep as they await his return in four to six weeks.

Tampa Bay won 4-2 on Saturday against Vancouver and play Edmonton tonight. Look for Mark Barberio and Luke Witkowski to provide defenseman depth for the Lightning.
