Lions Injury Update: Calvin Johnson unlikely to play Week 6

By on 10/07/2014 09:20:00 AM

The Detroit Lions' coach Jim Caldwell is leaning towards sitting out Calvin Johnson for this week's game against the Minnesota Vikings. This would give the star wide receiver's right ankle injury time to heal, reports Dave Birkett, a Detroit Free Press Sports Writer.

Coach Caldwell had been thinking of sitting Johnson out for last week's game against the Buffalo Bills. However, Johnson did suit-up and take the field, but again as in the previous week, he was very ineffective. Johnson had one reception for seven yards and was hit low on the play. He then struggled to get up.

The Lions' safest bet is to sit Johnson out and allow him to get healthy. Allowing Johnson to continue to play in this condition could jeopardize his entire season. The Lions' offense will just have to find a way to win without him for now. Matthew Stafford needs to be the leader and step up his game moving forward, as does the entire offense in Johnson's absence.

This truly is not good news for Johnson's fantasy football owners, but starting Johnson in his current condition won't win you any games. The Lions need to do the right thing and rest Johnson so he can get back to being the explosive Megatron we all know and love.
