Maple Leafs Injury Update: Brandon Kozun leaves game with apparent ankle injury [Video]

Toronto Maple Leafs rookie forward Brandon Kozun left Friday night's game in the second period and did not return, as confirmed by the team's official Twitter account. The injury occurred when Kozun was hit into the boards by Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey and his leg went awkwardly behind him, between his body and the boards. He was helped off the ice and put no pressure on his leg.

The 24-year-old winger, who made the team out of training camp, has played in all five of the Maple Leafs games so far this season. He has one assist.

After the game, the team announced that they believe it could be a high-ankle sprain, as reported by Jonas Siegel of TSN. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Saturday.

If Kozun does in fact have a high-ankle sprain, expect him to miss several weeks. This would be a tough break for the kid to start off his young career. As for the team, his loss should not have significant impact, as he was averaging under 10 minutes of ice time per game.
