By on 10/03/2014 04:58:00 PM

Toronto Maple Leafs' forwards Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak are both dealing with lower-body injuries and will miss Toronto's final preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings according to  Both are expected back in the lineup for the regular season opener October 8 when Toronto hosts Montreal.

Kessel, 27, is a former first round draft pick of the Boston Bruins, a four-time All-Star, and a U.S. National Team member whose scoring (80 points last season) will play a major role in any success Toronto has this season.  Fans might not know what to do if Kessel isn't in the lineup Wednesday as he hasn't missed a regular season game for Toronto since the 2009-2010 season.  Bozak, 28, is entering the second year of a five-year, $21 million deal.  The Maple Leafs will be looking for Bozak to continue his offensive contributions from last season which saw him total 49 points in just 58 games.
