Kings Injury Update: Marian Gaborik Aims to Start Tonight in the Los Angeles King’s Opener

By on 10/08/2014 03:22:00 PM

After missing significant time in training camp, Marian Gaborik hopes to be on the ice tonight at the Los Angeles Kings’ home opener against the San Jose Sharks. Eric Fleischmann reported that Gaborik participated in the Kings full practice on Friday with the goal of playing the season opener on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Kings will be raising their 2013-2014 Stanley Cup Championship banner. Marian Gaborik came to Los Angeles from the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, and was a contributor during the Kings' Stanley Cup run. Gaborik scored a goal in the decisive Game 5 overtime victory against the New York Rangers.

The right winger also reached a career milestone by earning his 700th career point last season on April 9th against the Calgary Flames. The Kings rewarded Marian Gaborik in the offseason with a seven-year, $34.125 million deal. This deal is considered a high risk, high reward signing. Gaborik is still known for his world class speed, skill and scoring touch but has been hampered by injuries the past few seasons. After only 45 total games in Los Angeles last season, Gaborik is excited to fit into the system and structure of the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
