Mariners Injury Update: Taijuan Walker done for the AFL

By on 10/20/2014 06:00:00 PM

Although Taijuan Walker was scratched from his Arizona Fall League start,'s Greg Johns is reporting that the Seattle Mariners top prospect is completely healthy.  He has simply decided that he will not to pitch anymore this fall.
General Manager Jack Zduriencik confirmed that Walker is shutting himself down and focused on his bright future in the major leagues saying:
Taijuan is completely healthy and was very impressive in his two outings, but made a personal decision that he needed to return home at this time.
He finished this fall with a 2.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts in nine innings of work.  He will look to build upon his season next spring with hopes of joining the Mariners rotation at the start of the season.

This year in eight major league appearances and 38 innings, Walker went 2-3 with a 2.61 ERA.  He has been labeled as a top prospect for years and should head into next season with increased expectations as the Mariners look to get to the postseason.
