By on 10/12/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Dallas Mavericks enter today's preseason game against the Indiana Pacers having dropped their first two games. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they were 20th in points allowed at 102.4 points per game. Improving the defense was a priority this off season. One injury which could hurt the Mavericks' cause on both ends of the court is a sprained ankle to Raymond Felton which occurred during Friday night's game.

As reported by Tim MacMahon of, Felton injured his ankle in the first quarter of Friday's game. He left American Airlines Center on crutches with a protective boot on his foot. Coach Rick Carlisle said he's hoping the injury isn't serious.

Felton injured his ankle when landing on the foot of Anthony Morrow. Fortunately, X-rays on Felton's ankle were negative, but the injury was the second for Mavericks' guards in the past two days.

If the injury is serious, Felton will have some extra time to recover, as he's already going to miss the first four games of the regular season due to a suspension. When he returns, Felton is expected to provide solid veteran play off the bench at both guard positions.

Felton, in his 10th NBA season, averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 assists in 65 games for the New York Knicks last season. The veteran point guard has played for the Bobcats, Nuggets, Knicks and Trail Blazers and has career averages of 13.1 points, 6.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.
