Nuggets Injury Alert: Shaw monitoring Ty Lawson's ankle

By on 10/13/2014 08:58:00 AM

Ty Lawson of the Denver Nuggets missed 20 games last season due to various injuries, primarily a left ankle sprain that cost him the last six games of the 2013-14 season. Throughout this preseason he's averaged 21 minutes as head coach Brian Shaw monitors the point guard's health.
According to Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post, it's more than your simple ankle sprain. Lawson was unable to run on it until July, and he will wear a brace throughout the season. Coach Shaw gave his thoughts on his starting point guard's progress:
There is some concern. I haven't really been killing him in practice or even in games. I'm cognizant of that. But once again, it's something that he's going to have to work himself through. It's a possibility he'll rest [during the preseason]. It's that fine line because you want guys to continue to build up their stamina and their conditioning and be sharp. ... If Ty just really busts out and has a big game and is showing me that 'Okay, I'm ready' then maybe I'll feel better about [giving him more minutes].
The 26-year-old guard out of North Carolina averaged 17.6 points and 8.8 assists last season in 35.8 minutes. Through three preseason games, he's averaged 16, 24, and 25 minutes per game.
