Pacers Injury Update: David West out for the remainder of the preseason

What hope the Indiana Pacers had left of having a successful season took another hit when veteran power forward David West went down with an injury this past Saturday. The injury occurred during Indiana's preseason victory against the Dallas Mavericks. During the third quarter West attempted a putback layup and landed awkwardly on his right ankle, immediately falling to the ground in pain.

He was helped off the court into the locker room and never returned to the contest. West was initially diagnosed with a sprained ankle, and underwent an MRI on Monday to further shed light on the injury. The MRI confirmed the sprained ankle, and the power forward was seen in a walking boot following the scan. The Pacers official twitter feed posted a pair of updates on the two-time NBA All-Star:

He was expected to pick up some of the scoring load left void by Paul George's injury, but now Indiana may be without West as well. While West is optimistic about his regular season status, if he does miss some time the Pacers have a former starter in Luis Scola to step into West's spot. Scola averaged 17 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game in two games as a starter last year, and will look to have similar success offensively if need be.
