Panthers Injury Update: Kelvin Benjamin suffered concussion

By on 10/16/2014 09:07:00 AM

The Carolina Panthers added Kelvin Benjamin to their injury report on Wednesday. The wide receiver came to work on Monday suffering from a headache.

Benjamin is going through the NFL's concussion protocol, so it's unclear if he will play this week against the Green Bay Packers, as reported by Gregg Rosenthal from Around the NFL.

The injury is believed to have occurred on the Panthers' final play from scrimmage last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. The hit was delivered by linebacker Vontaze Burfict, who knocked Benjamin to the ground and forced the Panthers to kick a field goal.

The Panthers' rookie wide receiver has become a big part of the offense this year. Cam Newton has been developing great chemistry and trust with the wide receiver this year.

Benjamin's numbers so far this year are 31 receptions for 416 yards and four touchdowns. His statistics show how important he has been in the Panthers' passing game.

The playing status for Benjamin remains up in the air right now. The wide receiver will have to follow NFL concussion protocol and pass all the necessary tests before being cleared to play.
