Red Wings Injury Update: Pavel Datsyuk returns to practice for the Red Wings

By on 10/02/2014 07:47:00 PM

For the first time in over a week, center Pavel Datsyuk was able to practice with the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. Ansar Khan of reported that “Datsyuk participated in the first half of practice while wearing a grey ‘non-contact’ jersey.”

The official Detroit Red Wings Twitter account had this to say about his return to practice:
After suffering a second degree shoulder separation in the preseason opener, Pavel Datsyuk was expected to miss four to five weeks. The 2013-2014 season saw Datsyuk play in only 45 games which was the lowest amount in his entire 12 year NHL career. Pavel’s veteran presence on the Red Wings first line is important as Detroit looks to advance past the first round of the playoffs this season.

It is not likely that Datsyuk will return in time to play in his 13th straight season opener on October 9th against the Boston Bruins, but his early return to practice is a good sign that he will not miss more than the first week of the regular season.
