Rangers Injury Update: Dan Girardi leaves game after taking a puck off his foot [Video]

By on 10/19/2014 08:34:00 PM

New York Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi left Sunday's game against the San Jose Sharks in the third period after blocking a shot from Sharks defenseman Matt Irwin. After the game, the team confirmed that he is day-to-day and received stitches via their official Twitter account. He finished the game with 16:56 TOI, three hits, and four blocked shots.

Girardi, in the first year of a new six-year contract with the team he's been with his entire career, has played in all six games for the Rangers this season. He has one assist and is averaging over 22 minutes per game. He leads the Rangers in blocked shots. He finished last season with five goals and 19 assists in 81 games.

It's unclear at this point how many games, if any, Girardi will miss. The Rangers play next on Tuesday night in New Jersey, then do not play again until Saturday when they visit Montreal. This light schedule for the week may play in his favor.
