Red Wings Injury Update: Daniel Alfreddson Still Out With Back Injury. Is Retirement Next?

By on 10/15/2014 08:30:00 PM

Detroit Red Wings right winger Daniel Alfreddson remains sidelined with a back injury. Ansar Khan from mlive reported that Alfreddson has not progressed enough to begin practicing with the team.

Despite being 41 years old, Daniel Alfreddson was a valuable member of the Red Wings last season as he scored 18 goals and assisted on 31 goals. Alfreddson was tied for the regular season points lead with teammate Niklas Kronwall. The 2013-2014 season was Alfreddson’s first season with Detroit after spending 17 years with Ottawa.

Daniel Alfreddson fought the recurring back pain throughout the 2013-2014 season and in the playoffs. The injury flared up during the playoffs, causing Alfreddson to miss the first two games against the Boston Bruins (The Red Wings lost this series in five games). The Red Wings will continue to wait a little longer for Alfreddson although things could change as the season progresses. His leadership and offensive skills could still be an asset to the team.  Is retirement Daniel Alfreddson’s next move? Time will tell.
