Red Wings Injury Update: Jimmy Howard expected to be ready for Tuesday

By on 10/21/2014 06:30:00 AM

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard is expected to be ready to play Tuesday night when the team visits Montreal to play the Canadiens. As reported by Ansar Khan of, the team reassigned Petr Mrazek back to Grand Rapids of the AHL. This all but confirms that he will be in the lineup. No word yet on if he will start, or if Jonas Gustavsson will be in front of the net.

As previously reported here, Howard was placed on the 48-hour goaltender injured reserve list with a sore groin. The soreness must have begun after Friday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 4-1 win.

Howard has appeared in four games for the team this season. He has a 2-1-1 record, posting a 1.72 GAA and a solid .934 save percentage.

Although he may or may not start, Howard will not have been out of the lineup for a single game. The team plays Tuesday night in Montreal and at home on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
