Red Wings Injury Update: Johan Franzen placed on short-term IR

By on 10/21/2014 01:00:00 PM

The Detroit Red Wings have announced that they put Johan Franzen on short-term IR. This means that Franzen will be out minimum seven days before he is able to return to the lineup (if he is ready by then).

On Friday Franzen left midway through the game with an apparent leg injury. He left the game as the team won 4-1 against the Maple Leafs. He also did not play the following night against when the team was schedule in back-to-back games with the Maple Leafs. The team also beat the leafs with a score of 1-0.

With Franzen being out, this opens up a spot for veteran Pavel Datsyuk to return to the line-up and could be in as soon as Tuesday night when the team faces the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.

Franzen has had a rough past with injuries. In the past two years he has played 95 games combined. He was off to a great start this season having two goals and three assists in four games.
