Reds Injury Update: Prospect Jesse Winker returns in style

By on 10/09/2014 07:00:00 PM

Although he has not played since July 11th, Cincinnati Reds top outfield prospect Jesse Winker returned from a wrist injury he suffered in a car accident in a big way in the Arizona Fall League on October 8th.  Winker showed no rust by going 2-3 with two walks, two RBIs, and two runs scored in a victory.
Playing in the Arizona Fall League should help him make up for the time he lost this summer dealing with his injury.

This past season playing at two levels, he hit a combined .287 with 15 home runs and 57 RBIs. MLB.com currently ranks him as the 7th best outfield prospect in all of baseball and his bat is strong enough to not only hit for high average at the major league level, but also to carry an offense.

Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips cannot carry the Reds offense alone.  At just 21-years-old, Winker has the ability to be on the Reds roster very soon.  On a team that has top-flight pitching and lacks offensive fire power, Winker could be a difference-maker in the near future.
