Redskins Injury Update: Gruden fully committed to RGIII week nine

By on 10/31/2014 11:22:00 AM

Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden was quoted on the status of Robert Griffin III on Thursday stating "We have every intent of him starting."  Griffin started taking first-team reps with Colt McCoy Wednesday and would continue increasing his time under center across the week.  Barring any setbacks the often injured quarterback will make his first start since suffering a dislocated ankle. Griffin hasn't played since week two of the NFL season, but the Redskins and Gruden feel he gives them the strongest chance at victory against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Redskins are 3-5 on the season and were led by McCoy last week against Dallas.  However, Gruden states that, "If all three are healthy, who gives us the best chance to win, and we made the decision in training camp that it was Robert, and he deserves a chance to prove us right."  Griffins' athleticism and mobility will likely allow the Redskins to utilize more of the offense against Minnesota.  Fans of the Redskins should watch early to see if Gruden chooses to have Griffin roll-out of the pocket or run zone-option plays which would indicate his ankle is stable. Otherwise, he may be limited to passing from the pocket.
