Yordano Ventura left in the sixth inning on Saturday as the Royals defeated the Baltimore Orioles in Game 2 of the ALCS but the right-hander was optimistic that shoulder soreness would not keep him from making his next start. Now Jesse Sanchez of reports that Ventura complete a bullpen session and could pitch today (Wednesday) if necessary. His next scheduled start would be Game 6 on Friday in Baltimore.
In Game 2, Ventura threw 92 pitches, allowing five hits, four earned runs, striking out three and walking three in 5.2 innings. He appeared out of the bullpen in the Wild Card Game against the Oakland A's, recording a blown save as he allowed a two-run homer.

Ventura, known for his 100+ mph fastball, is in his rookie campaign. During the regular season he made 30 starts, posting a record of 14-10 with an ERA of 3.20 (ERA+ 125), striking out 159 batters in 183 innings. The 23-year-old right-hander was signed by the Royals in 2008 out of the Dominican Republic, and made his debut September 17, 2013. He is pre-arb and under team control through 2019.
