Spurs Injury Update: Kawhi Leonard likely out for remainder of preseason

By on 10/20/2014 09:45:00 AM

The infection that 2014 Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard contracted has spread (insert Ebola joke here) from his right to left eye, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Leonard played 29 minutes in the Spurs preseason opener against Alba Berlin in Germany, but then complained of the infection on October 11.
The 23 year old will likely miss the remainder of the preseason and is even questionable for opening night against the Dallas Mavericks on October 28. Head coach Gregg Popovich spoke on the subject before his team squared off against the Miami Heat on Saturday:
It is going back and forth between the two [eyes]. It's crazy. Kawhi is still out for 10 more days.
MySanAntonio.com reports that the infection is not serious, but the Spurs training staff is still acting cautiously.

Leonard is entering his fourth year in the league and has steadily improved his stats through each season. Through the 2013-14 season, he averaged 10.9 points and 5.8 rebounds in 28.0 minutes per game—a year that resulted in his first NBA championship, the Spurs fifth overall.
