Stars Injury Update: Nichushkin removed from IR, will be sent to AHL for conditioning stint

By on 10/31/2014 12:44:00 PM

The Dallas Stars are expecting to get winger Valeri Nichushkin back soon as he was taken off of injured reserve yesterday. According to,  Nichushkin will have a brief stint with the AHL Texas Stars for a conditioning assignment before heading back to Dallas full-time.

Nichushkin has been absent from the Stars last seven games as he dealt with an injury believed to be groin or possibly hip related. To make room for his return, Dallas sent rookie Curtis McKenzie back to the AHL where both players will probably share some ice time before Nichushkin is ready to return to the NHL club.

Nichushkin, 19,  is entering his second season with the Dallas Stars after being the tenth overall selection in the first round in the 2013 draft. Last season, as a rookie, he stepped in right away and played in 79 games and added 34 points, including 14 goals. Nichushkin played in all six of Dallas' playoff games last year where he chipped in with a goal and an assist before the Stars were knocked out by the Anaheim Ducks.
