Texans Injury Update: Jadeveon Clowney likely to return in Week 8

By on 10/23/2014 12:30:00 PM

Houston Texans rookie linebacker Jadeveon Clowney has been sidelined since suffering a right knee injury in Week 1, and he was able to return to practice late last week as the team prepared to play the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Monday night. The 2014 No. 1 overall pick wound up being inactive after being listed as questionable, but as of now there's a chance Clowney will be able to play on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Clowney was originally expected to miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, and we're now a bit past that time frame. But it makes sense for the Texans to make sure Clowney is at full strength and can theoretically play a full complement of snaps without any limitations, since he missed time during training camp with a concussion and needed sports hernia surgery during the offseason.

The Texans have the makings of a formidable pass rush, as Whitney Mercilus as filled in capably for Clowney and J.J. Watt is of course among the best defensive players in the league. Texans' head coach Bill O'Brien has said Clowney will not immediately step into a full-time role when he is able to play, but his looming return is clearly good news.
