Tigers Injury Update: Jose Iglesias should be ready for spring

By on 10/18/2014 07:00:00 AM

When Alex Gonzalez is a team's best option to start at shortstop on opening day, it could be a long year at the position.  But that is the situation that the Detroit Tigers were placed in when starting shortstop, Jose Iglesias went down with injuries to both shins that caused him to miss the entire season.
Craig Calcaterra of NBCsports has reported that Iglesias is healthy and set to return for the start of 2015.

This could be the biggest addition the team could have this offseason as many of the team's other 2014 shortstops struggled to produce at the plate and in the field.

Iglesias was originally acquired in the second half of the 2013 as a replacement for the suspended Jhonny Peralta.  During that season, Peralta batted .303 and with a .376 OBP.  He performed so well that he was able to finish second in the Rookie of the Year that season.

With full healthy the 25-year-old shortstop should be expected to have a big impact for the Tigers in 2015.
