Tigers Injury Update: Rajai Davis not starting Game 3

By on 10/05/2014 01:40:00 PM

Detroit Tigers outfielder Rajai Davis came out of Game 2 with a recurrence of the pelvic sprain that he first suffered just before the regular season ended, and until approximately 11:00 a.m. Sunday, his stauts was questionable. Now, it is certain that Davis will not start Sunday's Game 3 with the Baltimore Orioles as the Tigers have announced their lineup.

Tigers beat writer for Jason Beck also reported that Don Kelly will start in center field over Ezequiel Carrera .

Beck quoted manager Brad Ausmus as saying he will have Davis available for pinch hitting. Beacuse of the colder weather, Davis could tighten up more easily and have difficulty staying loose. Said Ausmus,
"I would rather have him on the bench and be able to use him at a specified time than have him go out there and suddenly come out of the game and not be able to use him later in a more optimal spot. Considering the weather, I just don't think it was a prudent move to put him back in there."
Davis is 2 for 5 so far in the postseason, and Kelly has not yet batted.

Game 3 begins at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
