Wizards Injury Update: Glen Rice Jr. injuries right ankle during Wednesday's victory

By on 10/16/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Washington Wizards are off to a 4-1 start on the preseason following a 44-win season and second place finish in the Southeast Division last season. The Wizards had a balanced attack in last night's 101-95 victory over Maccabi Haifa. Otto Porter Jr. had 19 points, while Kevin Seraphin added 18 off the bench. On the downside, the Wizards lost guard Glen Rice, who contributed 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting, with a right ankle injury.

Keith Allison via Wikimedia Commons reported that Rice was in a walking boot after Wednesday's game and is unlikely to play tonight and perhaps wont even be ready by opening night. With Rice out, Rasual Butler may see extended minutes.

Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post  also reported that the injury occurred when Rice contested a shot and stepped on the shooter's foot. The injury ended the night for Rice with nearly 11 minutes left in the third quarter.

The injury hurts the Wizards' depth at shooting guard, as Bradley Beal will miss about six weeks after surgery on a broken left wrist. Backup Martell Webster is also out following back surgery this summer.
Rice was drafted in the second round, 35th pick overall by the Phialdelphia 76ers in 2013. The 23-year old guard out of Georgia Tech played 11 games last season with the Wizards. He averaged 2.9 points on 29 percent shooting and 1.8 rebounds per game.
