49ers Injury Update: Bruce Ellington has MRI on ankle

By on 11/11/2014 08:11:00 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have been no stranger to the injury bug in 2014.  In Sunday's game versus the New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Bruce Ellington suffered an ankle sprain.  He was initially listed as questionable to return, but later ruled out for the game.  Ian Rapoport tweeted following the game:
Ellington has primarily been returning punts and kicks for the 49ers and his absence forced cornerback Perrish Cox to return punts and running back Carlos Hyde to return kicks.

Rapoport recently noted that Ellington's injury may not have been as severe as feared when he tweeted:
It remains to be seen what Ellington's status might be for this coming Sunday as ankle injuries are often difficult to read for skill players required to cut and pivot.  However, knowing his MRI is negative for major damage 49er fans will watch for injury reports and practice status for Ellington later in the week.
