Blues Injury Update: David Backes returned to the lineup

By on 11/02/2014 09:41:00 PM

St. Louis Blues forward David Backes was back in the lineup on Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche. He missed only one game with a concussion.

Backes' head hit the ice after a hit by Dallas Stars defenseman Trevor Daley with 4:49 left in the first period on October 28. He left the game and did not return.

Through the first eight games played this season prior to the injury, Backes had two goals and three assists. Last season, he finished with 27 goals and 30 assists in 74 games.

In his return, the 30-year-old veteran, now in his ninth season in the NHL and all with the Blues, finished with 17:34 TOI. He had two shots on goal and three hits. The Blues won the game 3-2 after a shootout.

This is obviously great news for the Blues, who got their captain back on the ice. With concussions, you never know how long a player could be kept out. The fact that he missed only one game is nearly a best-case scenario.
