Browns Injury Update: Tashuan Gipson suffers knee injury

By on 11/24/2014 06:30:00 PM

Cleveland Browns safety Tashaun Gipson will likely miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a grade-3 MCL sprain during Sunday's win over the Atlanta Falcons, according to Ian Rapoport of

Gipson was carted off in the fourth quarter after a midair collision with Joe Haden and Julio Jones. An MRI on Monday revealed no ACL damage, which comes as a relief to the Browns, as Gipson's injury initially appeared very serious.

The recovery period for a grade-3 MCL sprain is typically 6-8 weeks, meaning Gipson could return for the playoffs if the Browns advance far enough.

Gipson has played well for Cleveland over the past two seasons and currently leads the league with six interceptions. Backup safeties Jordan Poyer and Jim Leonhard will likely see more playing time alongside Donte Whitner in Gipson's absence.

The Browns sit at 7-4, good for third place in a crowded AFC North race. Gipson will be a huge loss down the stretch for an improved secondary.
