Following practice Tuesday, the Capitals will depart for New York to face the Islanders, the first of two straight games against the Metropolitan Division’s top team. By then, the Capitals will know whether Green will come along.
“We’ll see where he is tomorrow,” Coach Barry Trotz said. “I’m not sure at this point if he’s practicing or traveling. We’ll have a better idea tomorrow morning. I’ll know that, if he’s not practicing, he’s probably not traveling. If he practices, he’ll travel and be a game-time decision.”
After missing the season’s first game with a different upper-body injury, Green became one of Washington’s most consistent performers, deployed on the third defensive pairing beside Nate Schmidt, where he received the highest rate of offensive-zone starts in his career. Among NHL defensemen, Green’s 1.61 points-per-60 minutes ranks seventh, and his 12 points leads all Capitals blue-liners.
