Cardinals Injury Update: Larry Fitzgerald 'optimistic' he will play

By on 11/21/2014 11:40:00 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have a league-best 9-1 record after a 14-6 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 11, but a knee injury for wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald brought a bid of bad news looking toward a Week 12 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

On Thursday Fitzgerald offered some optimism that he will be able to play on Sunday, but he has been officially listed as questionable after not practicing all week. Cardinals' head coach Bruce Arians, not too surprisingly all things considered, has said Fitzgerald will be a game-time decision for Sunday's 4:05 Eastern time kickoff.

Fitzgerald has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, but he quickly asserted that he expected to play through the injury. The fact he was able to finish last week's game with the injury bodes well for his ability to suit up on Sunday against Seattle, and hopefully beyond as the Cardinals try to position themselves for a playoff run.

If Fitzgerald does sit out on Sunday, Michael Floyd and rookie John Brown would become the clear-cut top two targets for quarterback Drew Stanton. Ted Ginn and Jaron Brown would also be in line for bigger roles. .
