Promising Boston Celtics rookie Marcus Smart suffered what appears to be a left ankle injury in Boston's 101-98 win against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter when Smart drove to the basket and stepped on the foot of Indiana's Lavoy Allen.

The sixth overall pick in the draft, Smart had scored three points on 1-6 shooting before his departure. Gary Washburn, writer for the Boston Globe, described the situation following the injury.
There has been no update on Smart's condition as of yet, however judging by how medical personnel dealt with his leg, a serious injury is not out of the question. Smart was averaging 7.8 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game in his first four games, and had been averaging 21.5 minutes per game. This is a crushing blow for a rebuilding Celtics team that is off to a 2-3 start on the year. If Smart is forced to miss any time, which he likely will, second year guard Phil Pressey will see more minutes at the back up point guard spot.
