Celtics Injury Update: Marcus Smart leaves practice, out for today's game

By on 11/28/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Boston Celtics head into Friday's game against the Chicago Bulls coming off a 94-88 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Jared Sullinger and Jeff Green lead the Celtics with 19 points each. At 4-8 on the season, the Celtics look to get back on track on today. They will have to do so without Marcus Smart, who is still battling his way back from an ankle sprain.

I reported on November 23 that Smart, who has been out of action due to an ankle injury, was expected back in the lineup in a week.

Gary Washburn, national NBA writer, tweeted the following on Smart's status.
Washburn of The Boston Globe added that Smart had to pull himself from practice on Wednesday and although he's not far from 100 percent, he will not play on today.

Coach Brad Stevens feels that Smart has a chance to become a great defender in the league, but the injury has put his hindered his overall progress.

Expect Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Phil Pressey and Marcus Thornton to continue to see the bulk of the action in the back court with Smart out of action.

Smart, a rookie guard out of Oklahoma State, is averaging 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 20.4 minutes in five games this season.  He averaged 18 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game last season at Oklahoma State. Smart posted an average of 16.6 points in 64 collegiate games.
