Colts Injury Update: Dwyane Allen suffers ankle injury

By on 11/17/2014 04:20:00 PM

The Indianapolis Colts left Sunday night's game vs. the Patriots with a bad taste in their mouth; not only did they lose the game, but they lost Ahmad Bradshaw and Dwayne Allen to injuries during the course of the game. Dwayne Allen was carted to the locker room in the first half with an ankle injury and did not return.

The general consensus was that the injury would be one that kept Allen out for a few weeks or more, but the Colts received positive new this afternoon. After undergoing a few tests, Allen himself came out and said that the injury is not believed to be serious, and he is preparing to play against Jacksonville on Sunday.

The Colts dodged a major bullet on this one. Allen has been a favorite of Andrew Luck's this year, recording seven touchdowns this season-- six of those coming in the last seven games.

Coby Fleener was able to step up and fill the void of Allen's departure, racking up 7 receptions for 144 yards. Although Allen's absence hurt the Colts last night from a blocking and passing perspective, it may have allowed Fleener to further showcase his capabilities; and down the road the Colts should feel more comfortable running two-tight end sets because it is a valuable asset in today's NFL.

Dwayne Allen and his teammates will look to improve their 6-4 record next week against the Jacksonville Jaguars in what appears to be a trap game, at most, for a team coming off a physical and deflating loss.
