Ducks Injury Update: Gibson out 6 weeks

By on 11/04/2014 09:26:00 PM

Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson is expected to miss the next six weeks with a groin injury, reports Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register. The injury occurred as Gibson was warming up before Sunday's game.

The 21-year-old rookie netminder has appeared in four games for the Ducks this season. He has a 2-2-0 record including one shutout. He has a 2.28 GAA and a .927 save percentage.

The team has recalled Igor Bobkov from their AHL affiliate Norfolk to take over the roster spot.

This is a tough break for Gibson, who began getting some starts at the end of the month of October and had a decent run going.

In his absence, Frederik Andersen should get the bulk of the starts. He was also out on Sunday with leg tightness, but the team has not placed him on injured reserve. This suggests this his injury is minor and he'll be back very soon. He was on the ice for practice on Tuesday.

Next up on the Ducks schedule are the New York Islanders on Wednesday.
