Flames Injury Update: Michael Ferland remains out with a concussion

By on 11/02/2014 08:57:00 PM

Friday night, newly recalled winger Michael Ferland left the ice midway through the second period with an upper-body injury. He did not return to the game and was ruled out with a concussion.

Cam Tucker from Pro Hockey Talk reported that Ferland was just recalled from Adirondack on Thursday to replace Mikael Backlund, who had recently been placed on IR. The hit on Ferland was deemed to be excessive as Nashville Predators' defenseman Anton Volchenkov was suspended by the NHL for four games for the hit. The main issue with the hit is that Volchenkov raised his arms and drove his forearm into Ferland’s head instead of a legal body check.

Calgary began a five-game road trip tonight in Montreal and Ferland has yet to join the team on the road. The Flames are currently 6-4-2 on the season.
