Hornets Injury Update: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is day-to-day with a chest contusion

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has been declared day-to-day after suffering a chest contusion during a scary fall in the Charlotte Hornets' Sunday game against the New York Knicks. The injury occurred midway through the first quarter of Charlotte's 96-93 loss when Kidd-Gilchrist and Shane Larkin went after a loose ball.

The two collided high in the air as Larkin caught a piece of Kidd-Gilchrist's arm, causing Kidd-Gilchrist to flip and land on his right side. The third-year small forward remained down for a few moments before getting up, and actually stayed in the game to hit a jumper just moments later. That was it for Kidd-Gilchrist though, and the Kentucky product eventually left the game having just played 10 minutes. The Hornets' PR department later revealed Kidd-Gilchrist's official diagnosis via twitter:
Kidd Gilchrist was in the midst of a great start to his third season, and was averaging a double-double through his first two games of work. This may be the make or break season for Kidd-Gilchrist, who has disappointed after being drafted second overall in 2012. There will likely be an injury report released early on Tuesday, further identifying Kidd-Gilchrist's status. While he may not miss any time, if the injury causes Kidd-Gilchrist to sit out then veteran Gerald Henderson will likely slide into the starting Small Forward position.
