Lakers Injury Update: Nick Young has begun shooting, expected to return to practice next week

Charismatic Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Nick Young has shown improvements in the healing of his surgically repaired thumb, and is expected to return to practice sometime next week.

USA Today

Young injured his right thumb on October third and immediately had surgery on the sixth. The eighth-year guard out of USC had the most successful year of his career last season, posting career highs in points per game and assists per game. Young was the main source of offense for Los Angeles in the 2013-14 season, leading the team in scoring despite starting just nine games.

The 6'7" shooting guard will likely continue his career on the bench during this season, after the return of Kobe Bryant has taken away any hope for Young to start in the back court. Wesley Johnson started 62 games at small forward last year, and has started each of the Lakers' six games at the position this season. Even though Young will not start, he will certainly see his fair share of shots. While Bryant will obviously take the majority of field goal attempts, Young is too talented and too big a part of the offense to not see at least 12 shots a game.
