Lions Injury Report: Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush, Brandon Pettigrew

By on 11/16/2014 06:23:00 AM

The first place Detroit Lions (7-2) will be taking on the 8-1 Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. Starting RB Reggie Bush (ankle), WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) and TE Brandon Pettigrew (foot) are listed on the Lions injury report for Sunday's game. Running back Reggie Bush is officially listed as questionable going into Sunday's game.

Bush, saddled with an ankle injury, did not partake in practice at all this week. It seems that Bush could be sitting out Sunday's game. Not only would Bush be unprepared without practice reps, but he would also be unprepared for the league's third best rush defense that has allowed just 78.6 yards per game this season.

If Bush doesn't go, it will be Joique Bell instead. Bush has rushed for 191 rushing yards and a touchdown on 53 carries as well as 26 receptions for 169 receiving yards this season in seven games. Perhaps it is better if Bush sits this game out and prepares for next week's contest at New England.

As for the passing game, WR Calvin Johnson did not show any signs of slowing down this week as he fully participated in Thursday and Friday's practices. He is battling an ankle injury, but is listed as questionable on the Lion's depth chart. This season, Johnson has played six games and has caught 29 passes for 461 yards and three touchdowns. Last week against Miami, Megatron caught seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. It seems that his ailments are relatively erased for now. We will see how he performs on Sunday.

Johnson will be joining TE Brandon Pettigrew against the league's third-worst passing defense which has given up 274.2 passing yards per game this year. Pettigrew has been dealing with a foot injury and was limited in practice on Friday. Pettigrew is a little less likely to go on Sunday than Johnson is. Pettigrew is officially listed as probable, but with just minimal practice on Friday, Pettigrew could potentially be a game-time decision. This season Pettigrew has nine receptions for 68 yards and no touchdowns. Injuries have cut short Pettigrew's 2014 NFL season. Hopefully Pettigrew will be healthy enough to play against Arizona.

Overall, the Lions are in good shape on the offensive side of the ball, besides OG Larry Warford who is out with a knee injury. TEs Joseph Fauria and rookie Eric Ebron are both listed as probable this week as well and have attended practice nearly every single time. The Cardinals have the third-worst pass defense, but the third-best rush defense. Look for the Lions to exploit the passing game, particularly with Megatron. Joique Bell is going to be limited in what he does against Arizona. in order to be successful, I can see some screen or designed check-down plays.
