Maple Leafs Injury Update: Joffrey Lupul out 3 weeks with broken hand

By on 11/02/2014 08:43:00 PM

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul will be out three weeks after suffering a broken bone in his right hand, as reported by The Canadian Press.

Head coach Randy Carlyle has said that Lupul will wear a cast on his injured hand for a minimum of 10 days before he can put a glove back on it and get some mobility back.

Lupul is having a slow start to the season. Through the first nine games of the season, the 31-year-old has just two goals and one assist. Last season, after 69 games played, Lupul had 22 goals and 22 assists.

With the injury, the Maple Leafs have recalled forward Sam Carrick from the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies. He's expected to play on the fourth line.

"It's all about opportunity," Carrick said. "I think that's one of the things that I take pride in is being a hard guy to play against on the penalty kill. That's what they told me coming in here — they thought I did a good job in pre-season at that. I just need to keep on doing it."
