Penguins Injury Update: Olli Maata could return Tuesday against Montreal

By on 11/17/2014 10:04:00 PM

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maata practiced Monday and coach Mike Johnston labelled him a "game-time decision" for Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens.

According to Slam Canoe, Maata said that he is "feeling good" but "we've got to (wait and) see until after (Tuesday) morning's skate, how I'm feeling after that. And then make some decisions after. Mentally, for sure I want to get out there."

Maata had surgery on November 4th to remove a cancerous tumor from his thyroid gland. He started skating a week later, but the original prognosis was for Maata to miss about four weeks. Tuesday will mark two weeks since the procedure. Coach Johnston also said that left winger Pascal Dupuis will not be making the trip with the Penguins to Montreal with an unspecified injury. Dupuis went to see a doctor on Monday and Johnston said the team would have an update by Wednesday.

Maata has six points (one goal, five assists) so far this season, while Dupuis has 11 points (six goals and five assists).
