Rangers Injury Update: Derek Stepan could return on Monday

By on 11/02/2014 09:20:00 PM

The New York Rangers have successfully survived the loss of center Derek Stepan for the first month of the regular season. Their hard work could be rewarded as all signs are pointing towards their second leading scorer from the 2013-2014 season making his season debut in the next few days.

According to James O’Brien from Pro Hockey Talk, Stepan participated in optional skating Sunday morning with a non-contact jersey on. His return from a fractured fibula injury during the preseason has been much anticipated for the reigning Eastern Conference champions. During the 2013-2014 season, he had 17 goals and a team leading 40 assists while playing in all 82 regular season games. Rangers coach Alan Vigneault and team doctors will watch him very closely during Monday morning’s practice and determine whether or not he can be activated for Monday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues.

The Rangers are currently 5-4-1 on the season.
