Ravens Injury Update: Jimmy Smith to miss rest of season

By on 11/07/2014 10:00:00 AM

The Baltimore Ravens received some devastating news when it was determined that cornerback Jimmy Smith would require surgery on his injured left foot. Smith hurt his foot in week eight against the Cincinnati Bengals and missed last week's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Smith underwent surgery yesterday and subsequently will miss the remainder of the season.

Smith was the best cornerback for the Ravens - and one of the best in the NFL this season - meaning that he leaves large shoes to fill. The Ravens claimed Danny Gorrer off waivers after he was released by the Detroit Lions, so unless they make another move, look for him to takeover Smith's right cornerback position.

Fellow cornerback Lardarius Webb has struggled this season, so between him and Gorrer - a castaway from the Lions - the Ravens' secondary has quickly become vulnerable and one to target for fantasy purposes. This is a unit that allowed 340 passing yards and six touchdowns to Ben Roethlisberger lastSunday.

The Ravens face quarterback Zach Mettenberger of Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and while Mettenberger can't be expected to post similar numbers to Roethlisberger, look for him to have success against a depleted Ravens' secondary.
