Rays Injury Update: Evan Longoria just bruised and fine after HBP

By on 11/19/2014 03:30:00 PM

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria is just fine after leaving Tuesday's MLB/Japan All-Star Series Game 5 due to getting hit by a pitch in the top of the third inning. He continued to play for duration of the inning but left in the fourth.

Longoria took a fastball from Japan's Shohei Ohtani off his left forearm while batting in the top of the third. He ran the bases and played defense in the bottom of the third but left the game when MLB took the field in the bottom of the fourth.'s Rays beat writer Marc Topkin reports that further evaluation confirms that Longoria has only a mild bruise that will not hamper his offseason schedule when the teams returns home.
In fact, Topkin quotes's Anthony DiComo, who is with the team, discussing the bruise. Said DiComo,
"Doctors diagnosed Longoria with a bruise, and he did not undergo any further testing at the Sapporo Dome.''
There is no word yet on whether or not Longoria will play in Thursday's exhibition game, the final game of the tour. Rays teammate Jeff Beliveau will likely sit out that final exhibition game. Beliveau has a mild lat strain suffered in Game 3 of the series on Saturday.
