Rays Injury Update: Jeff Beliveau leaves MLB/Japan Game in 8th after throwing pitch

By on 11/15/2014 07:30:00 AM

UPDATE: Jeff Beliveau has a mild lat strain and will miss the remainder of the MLB/Japan series. See here for details.

ORIGINAL: Tampa Bay Rays reliever Jeff Beliveau left Saturday's MLB/Japan All-Star Series Game 3 in the eight inning after striking out Ryosuke Kikuchi to open the frame. Pitching coach Mike Maddux and trainers came to the mound after the pitch and removed Beliveau from the game. Colorado's Franklin Morales replaced him.

Beliveau was pitching brilliantly as he struck out three of the four batters he faced and got the fourth hitter to fly out.

MLB.com's Joey Nowak reports that no further information on Beliveau's status is available yet.

NOTE: Japan used four pitchers in a combined no-hitter against MLB, winning the game 4-0.
