Red Wings Injury Update: Brendan Smith placed on IR

By on 11/20/2014 01:02:00 PM

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith has been placed on short-term injured reserve and will be off the ice until Wednesday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

According to Pro Hockey Talk, Smith has been placed on a seven day injured reserve due to an infection in his hand that he sustained from a fight. The Red Wings have called in Xavier Ouellet from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL to take Smith's place.

Smith has six points (two goals, four assists) so far this season.
